Lokho kwenza ukuthi noma sekubusa uNzwakele, kodwa isizwe sakwaDube sasisakhosele ephikweni likaShaka.
Abantu bakwaDube baqale ukuba nenkinga ngesikhathi sokukhothama kwenkosi uShaka, lapho uMbombosh’omnyama(inkosi uDingane kaSenzangakhona) waqala khona ukuzingela bonke abantu abayizihlobo zeLembe. Ekufeni kukaNzwakele uDingane wathatha umngani wakhe wakwaZungu obizo lakhe linguMadlebe, indodana kaMgedeza, owayakhe eMpaphala ngaseNtumeni eShowe. The Dube people are found south of the Mbonambi coast near the sea. After all, these nations are closely related. Their main area is near the Mhlathuze River, especially at its tributary of the Umhlathuze. It is said that during Khushwayo’s reign, the Dube people surrendered to the kingdom of Godongane of Yengo (king Dingiswayo), until during the reign of Ilembe (king Shaka) they surrendered to him for safety. As a result, during Nzwakele’s reign, the Dube clan was still under Shaka’s wing.
The Dube people started to have some trouble soon after the death King Shaka, when Mbombosh’omnyama (king Dingane of Senzangakhona) started hunting down all the people who were friends with King Shaka. King Dingane killed the like of Nqetho of the Khuzwayo, and Zihlandlo of Mkhize. With the Cele people fleeing (to escape Dingane’s wrath), Mningi (the Cele) returned and built the village of Mandlanzini, until the Mandlanzini tribe emerged, and Nzwakele joined Dingane’s conspiracy and was killed by Dingane himself. It was the beginning of the tragedy for the Dube people. Because they were forced to leave their country and cross the Tugela River, they became nomads.
When Dingane tried to kill and destroy the Dube people, fortunately near the Dube tribe there was Nqoboka of Sokhulu, who heard about this and took one of Nzwakele’s pregnant queens and hid her in his house. When Nzwakele died, his wife gave birth to a son, Habane, who became the ancestor of the Dube people. Nqoboka was one of Shaka’s mates who had stopped visiting Zululand because his friend Shaka had died, and his enemy Dingane ruled. When Dingane was defeated by King Mpande , he fled and died in the mountains of Bombo. He just bowed to the Dube people and scattered them all over the country. Their group was on the other side of Tugela in Mandelu, North of the Umvoti River.
At Nzwakele’s death Dingane took his Zungu friend Madlebe, Mgedeza’s son, who lived in Mpaphala near Entumeni in Eshowe. He also sent another Zungu man to be his eye on Madlebe, to see if he was looking at the Dube land, which Dingane had occupied. This was Mahuhulo from Mahlabathini. Mahuhulo was killed by Mpande. When things got better during Mpande’s reign, it was revealed that Nqoboka was hiding Nzwakele’s son. The rumors were spread by Prince Cetshwayo, because he heard that Habane had almost been killed by a buffalo in the hunt, survived by lying on the ground, and then stomped on his feet.
They asked Nqoboka to bring Habane to them.
Habane was indeed brought in, well received, and told to go and build in the Dube area, but he did not want to, and wanted to reunite with his people on the other side of Tugela, in Mandelu.
